Strategic Transportation Performance
The purpose of a statewide transportation strategy, as envisioned in Georgia's Statewide Strategic Transportation Plan, is to promote economic growth through access to jobs. It is a proactive approach to securing future prosperity that is outcomes-driven and return-on-investment oriented.

•In 2008, Investing in Tomorrow's Transportation Today (IT3) built the foundation of the first-ever business case for increased investment in the state's transportation system. IT3 spurred the passage of Senate Bill 200 in 2009, reforming Georgia's transportation decision-making structure and calling for the development of the Statewide Strategic Transportation Plan (SSTP) to guide the state's transportation investment decisions.
•The current SSTP was adopted by the State Transportation Board and Governor in 2010, establishing a new paradigm of results-based investments in public infrastructure to support economic growth. It aims to get the most out of the existing transportation infrastructure while finding new-capacity solutions in a manner that keeps Georgia's overall tax burden competitive. •To achieve the type of economic benefits outlined in the SSTP, the next step in this evolution will be the creation of a transportation performance management system that will help ensure the effective allocation, execution, and performance of transportation investments in the state. GRTA is already recognized for expertise in performance measurement through its annual Transportation Metropolitan Atlanta Performance (MAP) Report, an award-winning study documenting current developments, trends, achievements and issues with metro Atlanta's transportation system. This report measures outcomes in areas such as mobility, air quality, Safety, and Transportation System Performance. |
